I think I have an annoying tendency to paint brown in shadows. Granted, I wasn't using reference, which, is NOT an excuse.Sigh. Oh Well. Move on and do better next time ;)
Nice piece. Painting brown for shadows isn't that terrible of a habit. Well, I mean, at least it isn't completely black.

I think the browns have helped in giving your paintings an earthly, golden feel. They're very nice... but if you want to force yourself to try something different... you can perhaps try a blue underpainting first before everything else.
